Week 6: No mas Hurricanes

We are safe so far in this hurricane madness! We just barely got some rain today and some wind, but not too bad!

We have been working a lot with the Bertoldo's still. Alex is just amazing! He just got Baptized and is already asking questions about deep doctrine stuff that sometimes I don't even know! I love him and his family and have basically given my life to them these past few weeks!

Mathias is not on a baptismal date anymore. It was very odd, we went to go visit him and he was walking his dog with his friend and some other friends that we haven't met and it's like he didn't know us. But It's okay, he needs to mature and take things a little more seriously before he makes a big decision.

There is this less active/ recent convert to the church that we have been helping and their daughter is now really wanting to take more of the lessons again! So many miracles this week!

We had a lesson with Elizabeth and she was able to open up a lot more an we were able to help her with reading the book of Mormon and we will be teaching her more often in a week to help here read because she is very busy and lots of of duties to do as a mom who works basically 2 jobs! I love her to death, she is so sweet and I can't wait to help her find her relationship with Jesus Christ and understanding His love for her!

This week we were at a person's who had been taught before and:
1st miracle, she let us in, and we were able to teach her a lesson! and ;  2nd miracle is that on our way out, she had ordered dinner and a guy we had taught 2 weeks prior, (with a member family but we didn't get his number,) was the person who was delivering the food!  So then we were able to talk with him and get his number so that we can help him find out how much God loves him specifically, and how much God wants to be in his life.   Nico, (the guy,) let's God in his life!!! AMAZING THINGS HAPPENING! :)

Lesson learned this week is to LISTEN TO THE SPIRIT & DON'T OVERTHINK!

Allowing the grace of the Atonement of Jesus Christ into one's life is the most beautiful and meaningful thing a person could ever do! <3

I love you all and I know God is aware of each of you no matter what, we all matter to him! That's why we have been created and sent here to learn and grow! <3

Always love,
Sister Callista Chaffin
This was Friday when we definitely thought the hurricane was gonna hit, but it never rained until Monday!
All the bread was going because of everyone getting ready for the "hurricane"! our President told us at the end of last week to stock p on some water and some food to be safe because we didn't know how it would hit us!

our extra food ration for the hurricane

Week 5: 100 Degrees to 63 in a Week

Wow this week has been crazy! Dying of heat, then shivering....will I get hypothermia? who knows? still got to go out and work though ;)
This week has been a a lot about ONE FAMILY the dad go baptized in August and we are teaching the daughter and the rest of the family, well it's difficult. This family will surely go far though, even if we are only allowed to teach them one at a time! All the other people that have interest, are not yet ready to hear our message. we think that this one family needs our full attention and prayers  anyway. It will be a miracle to get this whole family.
What we have learned this week is more meekness in trial, and forgiveness. We as 19 year olds still have to be the bigger and more mature person in just about every situation and figure out their problems, which is............ going to church, and they will become happier and better, but they don't like to listen and try it their way!
Miracles are on their way! :)

Sorry for the short email! lots to do here!

Love you all! I hope I don't get swept away in this Hurricane Florence! <3 If this is the last time...

Week 4: Food & Miracles

Oh, this week was too good.
Started out with a member, who we did a little service for and last monday night, she said come over I have a few things from Costco to give you for helping me out... so we headed over there and she gave us 2 rotisserie Costco chickens, a whole variety pack box of chips, a half full box of cheese-itz and nature valley bars, cream cheese and apple pastries, 2 little bags of frozen rice and veggies, a huge thing of onion bread, a little box of cookies and I could go on, but I think that's about it! So knowing that we were not going to be able to eat 2 Rotisserie chickens even before it goes bad ( like the Blueberry muffins) we had to give it to someone who needed it more.... so we called up the Chinese Elders in our District who have 3 pairs of Elders in their ward and no one ever feeds them dinner and they literally said "Is this a joke?" because they had nooo food, and no good/healthy/substantial food in that case. So we gave them half of it. It was also a miracle for us cause it was the end of the month and we barley had money to get good food. Milk and apples are soo expensive here! :( There are a few fresh apples we got from that lady that gave us a huge amount of foood and they were delicious! :) Fav. snack --> Apples and Peanut butter. We also got a huge Costco Lasagna from another couple in our ward for a dinner they could do that night.. and a huge bowl of "pasta" and Meatballs hah it was basically spaghetti! So lots of random food this week.
Not too much on the work, just finding and finding people! We Taught Elizabeth on Saturday with an awesome and beautiful lesson! Alex, who just came back from a family trip, who was just recently baptized, came home this week and we are now teaching his cute daughter! and hopefully soon his family, they are awesome and I absolutely love him!
We had a dinner with the GIlie's hes pretty cool. He recited the whole declaration, memorized, while doing a plank, right in front or us.... He also has a crazy love for Bach, Beethoven and classical music... he even gave us beethoven CD to listen to for a bit....... 9th Symphony, GO CHECK IT OUT ;)
He has been to the craziest places in just a month. no one really knows exactly what his job is, or what he does, he barely can telll his wife!
Went on the nicest hike today and absolutely loved it! Hope everyone is having the greatest week!
LOVE YOU ALL! THE SPIRIT IS REAL! <3 :)
